The major actives of BANHRDB are to conduct research, training and other related activities in order to solve the nutritional problems of Bangladesh on self-help basis at the family level and as a whole of the country. These can be summarized as follows:
• To create awareness building activities related to food and nutrition policies among officers/field level workers of different Ministries including Ministry of Agriculture and NGOs.
• To train officers/fieldworkers of GOs and NGOs, school and college teachers, imam, farmers and others on food based nutrition.
• To formulate all sorts of research and development (R & D) planning and their implementation, co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation and to assess the nutrition status of the people of different regions in the country.
• To increase awareness and conducting research regarding nutritive value of food stuffs, chemical hazards in food chain and their impacts on human health.
• To assist different organizations in implementing project and policy related to food and nutrition and implementation of the project under policy guide lines.
• To implement Technical Assistance Project related to food based nutrition and human resource development in collaboration with the international organizations as per prior approval of the Government
• To implement activities in relation to Nutrition Mapping.
• To take initiatives for integration of nutritional considerations into the goals and objectives of the government development programs in the light of International Conference on Nutrition (ICN).
• To motivate the people through mass media regarding scientific method of cooking, home scale processing and preservation of food, preparation of balance diet particularly low cost balance diet, nutritive values of different foods, weaning food etc.
• To determine nutritive value of different food stuffs, standardization and to formulate food guide lines.
• To formulate food based guide lines and recommendations in order to reduce nutritional problems of the people of the various regions particularly “MONGHA”, “HAOR-BAOR, Hilly areas, Coastal Saline areas and Drought Prone areas.
• To update/inclusion of nutrition related lessons in primary, secondary, higher secondary, madrasha, agricultural diploma and other educational levels and to assist Ministry of Education in formulating nutrition related lessons.
• To take initiative to expand and strengthen of nutrition education in collaboration with Department of Education.
• To conduct collaborative training program with GOs and NGOs in order to improve nutritional status of the people and to do research and formulate development activities.
• To recommend the government to take initiative to solve unseen and sudden nutritional problems arise due to natural calamities at national and international level.
• To assist the government in determining the nutritional status of the patients and its implementation.
